Smoove & Turrell on Saturday 24th November 2018
For those that don’t know – Smoove & Turrell came about by the joining of forces between DJ/ Producer Smoove and singer John Turrell. A chance introduction and a plan to do one record together quickly grew into a band that has played massive festival stages worldwide and become one of the UK’s most loved soul acts. With the release of fifth album Mount Pleasant, Smoove & Turrell cement their position as one of the UK’s most exceptional soul acts with their innate ability to deliver hard times social commentary in a dancefloor friendly medium. Proudly working class as a band – this album celebrates love, life, politics and the lows and the highs of growing up and raising families in the North East of England. Gritty and powerful, the band make no attempt to sound or look like anyone else – not for them the sharp suits and trumpet twirls of some of their peers. Instead you get a wildly talented and vital crew of larger than life Geordie lads taking their rightful place on the international soul scene having already become figureheads within the UK. A firm favourite here at Band on the Wall, we welcome them back for what promises to be another knockout full live show.
DJ Support Noble & Heath ---
Double decking vinyl duo DJs playing proper music for proper dancing. Committed collectors, the girls have brought some much needed freshness to dance floors all over London, stepping up the tempo one 7' at a time, spinning the very best in Soul, Northern, Modern and Crossover all mixed together with a healthy dose of Disco, and the kind of soulful shenanigans that keep you out 'til the lights come on. Expect unashamed energy and rascalish behaviour from the outset. They have played alongside the likes of Norman Jay MBE, Craig Charles, Greg Wilson & Jazzy B OBE and are regularly seen guesting at some of London's best underground Soul and Disco nights. The pair host a radio show on Mi-Soul Connoisseurs and have regular residencies around London. They have graced the decks at places such as The Royal Albert Hall, Bestival, KOKO, XOYO, The Jazz Cafe, Field Day, Ibiza Soul Week, Brixton Disco Festival, The Electric Ballroom, The Book Club, Brixton Jamm, Brixton Roof Top and this year they have gigs lined up all over the UK and Europe.
