About

This December 5th you are cordially invited to Tales from the Masquerade - a down n dirty live musical cabaret at Quarry produced by EAT ME and written and performed by John de Tuite & Pete Rea.

"The Masquerade was a small Smokey basement nightclub in the city of Liverpool // Dirty and divine full of gay boys and lesbians, sex workers, drag queens, sailors and misfits // Known only to the privileged few // Those that the ordinary folk of the city called Degenerates"

The show features local drag artists and musicians bringing to life the fates of a cast of questionable queers who patronise 'the Masq', a notorious LGBT friendly club in Liverpool, at different points in history as they find fame, fortune and oblivion in Paris, New York and London with friends Pete Burns, Holly Johnson, Margi Clark and more.

Join us for an atmospheric collection of stories that transport the audience to a queer slice of Liverpool in the 1970s and 80s offering a window into John's remarkable career, and his peers of game changing queer creative talents on the brink of taking over the world.

Expect shades of Lou Reed's 'Transformer', Dry Cleaning and David Bowie in Berlin, accompanied by orchestral swells, DIY noise and addictive hooks of John's distinctive spoken word delivery.

Accessibility: Quarry is currently not wheelchair accessible due to the basement location. The venue is divided into a live room and a separate bar. There are 15 steps down to the venue from the street, and an additional 5 steps to access the live room. Please email eatmelpool@gmail.com for any other access requests and we will do our best to meet your needs for this show.
