Immix Ensemble presents: Jane Weaver & Sam Wiehl on Thursday 9th November 2017
Liverpool based new music group Immix Ensemble are no stranger to collaboration, formed in 2014 as part of Metal’s Time and Space residency they are now in their third series of unique performances in Liverpool and beyond.
Signed to acclaimed ‘modern classical’ label Erased Tapes (home to the likes of Olafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm) Immix have presented over a dozen new collaborative works in Liverpool, working with a wide-array of artists, from the leftfield songwriting of Stealing Sheep and Bill Ryder Jones to artists at the forefront of the British experimental music scene such as Vessel and Ex-Easter Island Head.
For the second concert of this series they have teamed up with Jane Weaver and Sam Wiehl to present ‘Kosmologie Ancienne’, a one-time performance melding the visual world of Sam Wiehl, the psych-pop of Jane Weaver and the traditional instrumentation of Immix Ensemble.
“She’s by some distance the best songwriter of the latter-day psych revivalists.”
- The Guardian on Jane Weaver
“With one eye on the dancefloor and another on those sprawling existential questions we may never truly answer, Jane Weaver's Modern Kosmology is a joyous relief to cynical cosmic vibes.”
- The Quietus on Jane Weaver
Using Weaver’s critically acclaimed 2017 album ‘Modern Kosmology’ as a starting point the collaborators will present this unique performance combining Weaver’s voice and synthesisers, classical instrumentation and live visuals from Sam Wiehl, the visual artist behind Liverpool Psych Fest as well as the likes of The Coral, Forest Swords and Abandon Silence.
Support will come from Immix composer in residence - Andrew PM Hunt (Dialect) with Andy Votel playing before and between acts.
The performance will take place in the grand setting of Lutyens Crypt, the cavernous chambers beneath Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.
Immix Ensemble are committed to making new music accessible, as such there’ll be an allocation of free tickets to those claiming JSA, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
