FREEDOM WEEKEND on Friday 2nd - Sunday 4th July 2021

The Bootle Music Festival is BACK with a very special programme of events on ‘FREEDOM WEEKEND’

FRI 2nd - 5pm - 10pm (Gates open 4pm)

Friday 2nd is a fabulously chilled out Acoustic evening by the canal-side which you won't want to miss!

Glenn Tilbrook mention Glenn Tilbrook and most people immediately think of Squeeze. As one half of the award-winning Squeeze song writing team of Difford/Tilbrook, Glenn has co-written some of the most-loved songs of the last thirty years “Up The Junction,” “Slap & Tickle,” “Pulling Mussels (From A Shell),” ‘“Another Nail In My Heart,” “Tempted,” “Labelled With Love” and “Black Coffee In Bed.” Today’s newer artists, such as The Feeling, Kasabian, The View, Razorlight, Mark Ronson and Lily Allen have all cited Squeeze as a major influence. Glenn’s solo career has spawned the albums The Incomplete Glenn Tilbrook, Transatlantic Ping-Pong, Pandemonium Ensues (with the wonderful Fluffers), as well as the highly acclaimed Happy Ending (“an unqualified triumph” – Daily Mirror). As well as his solo work, Glenn continues to tour with Squeeze and has more than earned his reputation as one of our most cherished singers, guitarists, and songwriters, not to mention an in-demand and endlessly endearing live performer. Glenn passionately supports the work of the Trussell Trust and encourages everyone to bring something for the food bank stations he has set up everywhere he plays - this will be no exception.

Nick Harper - Accomplished guitarist, songwriter and acoustic performer, Nick got his professional start on the mid-'80s album Whatever Happened to Jugula, a collaboration of his father, Roy Harper, and Jimmy Page. From that time on, Nick toured and recorded regularly with his dad. His own debut as a leader came in 1994 with the EP Light at the End of the Kennel. His first full-length, Seed, followed a year later. Singer, composer, and former Squeeze frontman Glenn Tilbrook heard Harper perform and was impressed enough to sign him to the new label Quixotic Records. After touring around the U.K., North America, and Japan, Harper recorded the first of his albums for Quixotic; the 1998 release, Smithereens, was followed by another tour. His third album Harperspace, came out in 2000. After 11 studio albums, 3 live CDs, 2 EPs and a rockumentary style DVD 'Love is Music', Nick's work is still as fresh and vital as that of his first solo release in 1994 but as evidenced by his highly personal 2020 album Phantastes, he still has time to sing about the most important things in his world - family, friends, love and life. Nick is one of life’s good guys and we are delighted to welcome him back to Bootle!

Leon Tilbrook is a fast-emerging young singer/songwriter from South East London. Leon performs solo acoustic and also with his band, Nathalie De Leuw on guitar, Laurie Milton on keys, Kobe Heath-Ngugi on bass and Sacha Harlan on drums. The band help take his finely crafted acoustic material and inject it with a blazing indie jazz rock sensibility, that is winning over audiences London wide. With a song craft mature well beyond his years, mixed with exceptional vocal and guitar skills, he is an exciting live performer!

SAT 3rd - 1pm - 10pm (Gates open 12pm)

Saturday 3rd will be like nothing ever seen in Bootle! Original musical theatrical performances of ‘Born By the River’ and ‘Libertalia’ will include live music, dance, drama & aerial elements, coming together to tell stories of the sea,of liberty and of pirates….grab yourself a bottle o’rum and join the party with the Old Time Sailors - a unique flashmob-style musical show designed to take you back in time through an unforgettable trip to days gone by.
