Fran & Flora / Jonathon Hering on Friday 24th January 2020
In demand instrumentalists performing a repertoire of originals and traditional Eastern European inspired reinterpretations. They have been building a history of sell-out shows including London's Cafe OTO (their debut album release party), Bishop's House Sheffield and Rose Hill Brighton. In addition, the pair performed at the firstSerious Music 'Between The Lines' event at Corsica studios recently, as well as The End Festival, Union Chapel, Kings Place, Tara Arts and many more...Delicately navigating the question of authenticity they've spent years developing a sound which is simultaneously reverent to the traditions they have been studying as well as deeply personal. Fran & Flora embarked on this musical journey together following many years collaborating with groundbreaking artists including Talvin Singh (Mercury Prize Winner), Sam Lee & Friends (BBC Folk Award winner), Hejira, Dunajska Kapelye, the London Klezmer Quartet, Cosmo Sheldrake and Frank London(Klezmatics, US). Their growing reputation has accelerated since the recent release of their debut album unfurl (Feb 2019) which was produced by Sam Beste from Hejira. Unfurl has gained critical acclaim and attention from national radio, magazines, newspapers and online publications. They have appeared live in session on BBC4’s Woman's Hour, Cerys Matthews’ 6 Music Show and Gilles Peterson's Worldwide FM. Recent performances include Kings Place, Cafe Oto, Eastbourne Folk Club, Klezmer InThe Park, Shambala Festival, Shtetl Neukeulln (Berlin) and the EFG London Jazz Festival.
Support from Jonathon Hering.
Jonathan Hering is a performer and composer from Liverpool.
Jonathan's debut solo album, Carmina Chromatico (Brawl Records), features twelve polyphonic vocal tracks all sung by Jonathan using his bass to counter-tenor range and presenting renaissance and contemporary compositions for up to 8 vocal lines. The album spans over six hundred years featuring music from the renaissance avant-garde to his own long-form composition ‘Lachrymose'. With his DIY sensibilities Jonathan takes Early Music out of the Historically Informed Performance idiom to sing every part in his own voice, eschewing the centuries of performance etiquette it has become entrenched in.
As a performer, Jonathan is a multi-instrumentalist, performing with Ex-Easter Island Head and The Aleph. He has performed throughout Europe, and as far afield as Japan, working alongside artists and composers as diverse as Christian Wolff, Anat Ben David, Trey Spruance and Phil Minton.
Music Genres: Alternative, Classical
