Dave Haslam Q&A and book signing on Friday 24th August 2018
To begin our 60th birthday celebrations, we invite you to join us in The Jacaranda for a book signing and Q&A session with music journalist, writer and DJ Dave Haslam, and the opening of a photography exhibition curated by Liverpool-based writer-musician-photographer Marlie Centawer, which will be on display all weekend.
Dave Haslam's Q&A will be followed by a book signing of a selection of his titles, including “Life After Dark: A History of British Nightclubs and Music Venues” (2015) (which talks about our very own Jacaranda Club) and his most recent memoir “Sonic Youth Slept On My Floor: Music, Manchester and More” (2018), both of which will be available for purchase at the signing and in both The Jac and Phase One.
Dave DJ'd over 450 times at the Hacienda club in Manchester, mostly in the late 1980s. He has since DJ’d worldwide. An accomplished journalist, he has written five books, among them ‘Life After Dark’, the definitive and acclaimed history of British music venues (from Victorian music halls, through the jazz age to the present day, via skiffle, beat clubs, mods, psychedelic happenings, funk, soul and rave taking in many Liverpool venues along the way, including, of course, the Jacaranda). ‘The Sunday Times’ declared the work a “must read” and described by the ‘Herald’ (Scotland) as “impressive…beautifully written, incredibly readable and fascinating”. http://www.davehaslam.com/
