Speyside Whisky and Sherry Tasting on Thursday 9th December 2021
We've been talking about doing this tasting for a while, but it's taken some time to find three whiskies that really show off the style of Sherry cask that they were aged in, but we feel like we've found perfect matches now.
Glentauchers 2011 Vintage, bottled by Càrn Mòr at 47.5%ABV and matured in ex-Oloroso Sherry butts for 9 years. This whisky will be paired with a 25mL measure of Alfonso Oloroso Seco from González Byass.
Glen Moray 2007 Vintage, bottled by Thompson Bros at 53.4%ABV and matured for 11 years in a refill American oak barrel and then 2 years in an ex-Amontillado Sherry cask. This whisky will be paired with a 25mL measure of Viña AB Amontillado Sherry from González Byass.
Glen Elgin 2007 Vintage, bottled by Càrn Mòr at 47.5%ABV and matured in an ex-Pedro Ximenéz Sherry cask for 13 years. This will be paired with a 25mL measure of Nectar Pedro Ximenéz Sherry from Gonzaléz Byass.
To finish off we've got a dram of a very dry type of Sherry called Fino from a bottler called Xeco. This will be a really nice Sherry to finish off with and contrast against the super sweet Pedro Ximenéz we just had. We would have liked to pair a whisky with this one, but whisky matured in Fino casks just doesn't come up too often.
So there you have it, 3 amazing indie bottled Sherry cask whiskies paired with the Sherry styles that seasoned the casks, and a bonus dram of Fino Sherry to finish off!
