International Women's Day Showcase on Friday 6th March 2020
WE WANT WOMEN is a three year old voluntary lead activist project lead by Liverpool born singer songwriter and performance artist Nicola Hardman. Every month since October 2016, Hardman has delivered monthly showcase nights consisting of women in the performing arts from the local scene and further afield. The project focuses on getting women's voices heard and recognises the inequality not only in the performing arts scene, but historically and currently. After gaining a small crowdfunding sum of money in December 2019, Hardman is taking the first steps to build the project into a CIC business that will give back to women in the performing arts. We Want Women will deliver mental wellbeing and focus circles, gathering research on the issues women in the performing arts face and create a network for women to feel heard and held.
BLACKBURNE HOUSE, formerly the Women’s Technology and Education Centre (WTEC), was established in 1983 with the aim of progressing women from disadvantaged backgrounds into employment within technical professions – an area in which, at the time, women were significantly under-represented.
The organisation grew quickly and considerably and, in 1991, moved into new premises in Liverpool’s famous Georgian Quarter. More than £4m was raised in order to breathe new life back into Blackburne House and the beautiful, Grade II-listed building became our new home. Today, Blackburne House is a vibrant and thriving organisation and one of the country’s leading education centres for women – but we wouldn’t have experienced the growth we have without the help of our partner organisations.
We Want Women are honoured to curate a performing arts showcase in collaboration with Blackburne House for International Women's Day 2020 and present women from several genres of the performing arts; music, acting, comedy, poetry and dance!
Come and celebrate with us, all proceeds will go into supporting women in the performing arts in Liverpool and the growth of the community of women's voices.
