The Aerie Loft Party series sees Anti Social Jazz Club and Buyers Club invite some of our favourite DJs and selectors to
Liverpool and take to the decks for a night of musical discovery.
The fourth and fifth instalments of the Aerie Loft Party series sees us dance till late two nights in a row for a December special. Aerie Loft Party number five sees us invite Glasgow’s Rebecca Vasmant, Manchester-based Werkha and Pablo Blanquito to the Eagles nest. Support by Anti Social Jazz Club’s ASJC Lee.
Rebecca Vasmant (WW Glasgow / Worldwide FM / Sub Club / Era Suite)
In an age increasingly dominated by faceless machine-created sounds, DJ-Producer Rebecca Vasmant is bringing a fresh new twist to dance music with her love of jazz, the original form of unbridled spiritual sonic expression. Rebecca is a passionate record collector and her knowledge exceeds her time as a 'digger'. Rebecca’s talents go beyond spinning records, but in composing and live shows also.
Alongside her own Glasgow-based parties and record fair, touring the world for the past five years, Rebecca has fitted in sessions with eight-strong Ghanaian outfit Kakatsitsi, her radio show on Worldwide FM, as well as working on her new project 'Glasgow Jazz Experiment which features world class musicians from The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra.
Rebecca has already made a name for herself in Glasgow with her residency at Sub Club, Made In Glasgow and Know The Way parties, running a popular record fair with the venerable Sub Club and a monthly spot on BBC Radio Scotland playing records. A huge jazz fan, she explores her irrepressible musical passion at key events like the Glasgow Jazz Festival, Jazz Cafe London, and the Baltic Soul Weekender.
Werkha (Tru Thoughts / Brownswood Bubblers / Cool Kid Music)
Manchester-based Werkha is the project of musician and producer Tom A. Leah. a meticulous multi-tasker, Werkha splits his time between producing, button smashing and dj’ing alongside is live performances. Signed to Brighton’s Tru Thoughts, Werkha’s reputation has spread across the world.
Werkha’s signature sound is an infectious fusion of Afrobeat, bass, house, jazz, funk and soul, bound together through contemporary electronic production.
In 2012 Werkha released his debut ‘Cube & Puzzle’ EP on Cool Kid Music which has became an underground sensation, enjoying airplay throughout Europe, most notably from Giles Peterson who included one of his tracks on Brownswood Bubblers 10.
The multi-instrumentalist’s latest release “For All Hands” EP is comprised of four dark and disquiet tracks with an experimental groove, the EP builds on the success of the “We Communicate EP”. Alongside his on music, Werkha has remixed Paper Tiger, Dutch Uncles, Quantic and most recently Fazier, while his own tracks have gained reworks from Scratcha DVA, Henry Wu, Contours and more.
Pablo Blanquito (Better Days /
Pablo Blanquito is one of the minds behind Manchester-based Idle Moments and Better Days as well as a DJ spinning at the likes of Band On The Wall, Cottonopolis and YES Manchester,
Pablos selections can also be heard on Manchester independent radio station Reform and his most recent guest mix for Tim Garcia’s Musica Macondo on Jazz FM.
ASJC Lee (Anti Social Jazz Club / Melodic Distraction)
A self-prescribed vinyl addict, ASJC Lee aka Lee Fleming is the founder of Liverpool-based jazz collective Anti Social Jazz Club. With residencies at The Merchant and Buyers Club, a monthly radio show on Melodic Distraction and regular pop up jazz concepts in the North West.
Having supported the likes of Giles Peterson, Andy Votel and Bill Brewster, ASJC Lee’s Jazz-leaning sounds are ever-growing as his passion for improvised music takes his exploration further afield, from all around the world.
