Contours (Rhythm Section / NTS /Shall Not Fade / Banana Hill)
Manchester-based Contours is the project of musician, producer and DJ Tom Burford. Born in Cumbria, Contours signature sound explores the space, rhythms and textures between house, jazz, broken beat, Afro, techno and hip-hop.
Exposed to an eclectic range of music from an early age, Contours DJ sets traverse a litany of sounds and influences. Growing up playing drums and percussion, Contours own productions draw heavily on this, incorporating sounds and rhythms from around the world. The result, a fusion of infectious blend of electronic, organic, live and programmed performances. Samples, field recordings and live instrumentation are crucial in Contours sounds and approach to making music.
With releases on Tru Thoughts, Shall Not Fade, Fly High Society, On The Corner and Bradley Zero’s Rhythm Section, Contours has received support from esteemed selectors including Mr Scruff, Alexander Nut and Benji B. Contours selections can be heard monthly on the airwaves on his radio shows at Manchester’s NTS and Reform Radio.
