Madnice Marauders 6th Birthday w/ Henry Wu & Alex Nut on Saturday 24th February 2018
24 Kitchen Street are proud to present Madnice Marauders 6th Birthday featuring:
HENRY WU aka KAMAAL WILLIAMS (Black Focus Records / NTS Radio)
ALEXANDER NUT (Eglo Records / NTS Radio)
with support from
6 years still spinnin'. On Saturday 24th February Madnice return to their early beginnings to bring a club show featuring two of the most respected DJs to come out of the UK in recent years. This is a toast to all that's gone before (think Loyle Carner, Mr Thing, Dego, Jon K, Peanut Butter Wolf, Roy Ayers, Yussef Kamaal, Maseo, Ge-ology, Mr Scruff, DJ Spinna, Alfa Mist, Shabazz Palaces, Thundercat etc.) and to what may yet lie ahead (who knows?). Join us.
Since 2014 when Henry Wu's first release dropped on 22a Records, the Peckham based artist has made a name for himself as a leading figure in the new generation of soul music worldwide. With sell out releases on Eglo and Rhythm Section - not to mention the formation of Yussef Kamaal and the release of Black Focus on Brownswood in 2016 which set a new standard in UK jazz - Henry Wu continues to go from strength to strength with the recent release of the High Life EP with Earl Jeffers on MCDE Recordings and the forthcoming Black Focus 2 album as the Kamaal Williams Trio. Having played for Madnice at 24 Kitchen Street as part of Yussef Kamaal in Nov 2016, it's an honour to have Henry back to do his thing on the decks.
Founded in 2008 by Floating Points and Alexander Nut, Eglo Records has gone on to become an independent British musical institution with releases from the likes of Funkineven, Steve Spacek, Anderson Paak and Fatima. There is no denying that Alex Nut is well established as an eclectic DJ and all round musical tastemaker, with 8 years at Rinse FM before establishing himself with one of the go-to shows on NTS Radio in the past few years. Having played for us in 2014 as part of Fatima's infamous city debut at Kitchen Street, it was high time we got Alex back to Liverpool to play for Madnice.
Support on the night comes in the form of the Madnice crew, ably assisted by a selector who has caught our attention in the past year, Tiz Smith.
Since launching with the inaugural Dilla party in 2012, Madnice has consistently brought some of the finest soulful music across all genres to Liverpool, learning from the past and looking toward the future of hip-hop, soul, jazz, funk and beyond... once again we celebrate the soulful sounds in our home from home, with friends, at the intimate 24 Kitchen Street.
