5 Years Of Madnice feat The Abstract Orchestra does Dilla on Saturday 18th February 2017

Bam!Bam!Bam! x Madnice Marauders present...

5 YEARS OF MADNICE featuring

Abstract Orchestra does DILLA (live)

plus very special guests

5 years passed and things done change while some things remain the same. On Saturday 18th February, Bam! Bam! Bam! and Madnice team up once again to celebrate 5 years of Madnice gigs and parties while celebrating the life and work of the late, great J Dilla.

There isn't a veteran in the hip hop game who doesn't cite Dilla as an integral part of their musical journey. He worked with A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Erykah Badu, The Roots, Common and more. His influence can be felt across hip hop and modern jazz, with Kamasi Washington citing him as a major inspiration alongside Mingus and Coltrane. February, the month that marks the birth of the lost legend, sees parties up and down the country, world over, celebrate in unison his legacy.

For this show, the Abstract Orchestra perform a range of works from Jay Dilla's back catalogue. The Abstract Orchestra is a 16-piece ensemble led by Haggis Horns saxophonist Rob Mitchell keeping alive the culture of musicians playing live hip-hop. Inspired by the orchestral arrangements by Miguel Atwood-Ferguson of the work of J Dilla, the band strives to merge great musical arrangements with incredible hip-hop from across the decades to create an amazing live experience that truly is jaw dropping. The group work closely with guest MC’s, creating exciting new arrangements of their work and co-writing new music that pushes the envelope of hip-hop and jazz.

In support of this unique live reinterpretation of Jay Dee, a host of special guests will continue the party late into the night behind two turntables (seriously, watch this space, there will be an OG in the house), dropping J Dilla classics, remixes, rarities and samples.

Since launching with the inaugural Dilla party in 2012, Madnice has consistently brought some of the finest soulful music across all genres to Liverpool, learning from the past and looking toward the future of hip-hop, soul, jazz, funk and beyond... with acts such as Maseo from De La Soul, Quantic, Nightmares on Wax, Yussef Kamaal, Fatima, DJ Spinna, Alex Nut, Peanut Butter Wolf, Jonwayne and more gracing the city in the past 5 years. It is fitting that this gig represents Madnice coming full circle and toasting half a decade of soulful sounds by once again celebrating the genius of James Yancey aka J Dilla in the intimate surrounds of 24 Kitchen Street with the Bam! Bam! Bam! fam.
