About

One year on from the first Offshoots, we return to Wharf Chambers to bring a night of improvised, experimental music.

At this gig we advise you bring pen, paper, paint or any art supplies (some will be provided) to draw and capture the event.

There will be three groups performing, hotiiVones, Fergus Quill / Jon Lodder and Herbie Hopkins.

Hot Ones interactive esperimental musical improvisation performance for duo (vegan), with your host Rory 'whydonttheyjustbuyahelix' Maslen (they/them) - bass [rsi, kiosk, the police]. Episode 1: Teruki 'thesnaredrumwontblowitself' Chan (snare/drum) - drum [drum in the park, drum on street, drum on floor]. 我希望你喜欢。我是汉堡包。

Fergus Quill and Jonathan Lodder play as duo for the first time. Playing noise/old songs/new songs. They are interested in electronic and digital feedback and harnessing it to create music to improvise to alone with acoustic elements.

"My name is Herbie Hopkins, and I'm a songwriter from Leeds. My songs are often about anatomy, nocturnal landscapes, and supernatural self-discovery. I combine vivid lyrical imagery with spectral, finger-picked guitar parts. Renowned improviser and drummer, Mark Sanders, described my work as ‘adventurous and daring’. Inspired by the likes of Alabaster DePlume and Sam Amidon; I ask skilled improvisers to embellish my songs with free improvisation. Together, our music is sparklingly immediate and uniquely expressive. My debut album 'Kyra' is out now!"

Wharf Chambers is a members’ club and you need to be a member, or guest of a member, in order to attend.  Please visit wharfchambers.org/join. Membership costs £1 and requires a minimum of 48 hours to take effect.
