Lynette Quek, Quip on Tuesday 27th November 2018
Lynette Quek is an audio visual artist and sound engineer from Singapore working in audio and video.
Lynette’s work covers a wide range of differing output mediums from moving image work through to spacious bubbling audio landscapes full of playful deconstructed melodies and meticulous sound design often wedded to abstract moving images. Recent works have seen her move into more conceptual endeavours with Typing an Email, a playful exploration into the message as performative act.
Quip live shows are always something to savour, not least because you are never quite sure which genre he will be operating in; from Fennesz style rustic, bucolic laptop and guitar meditations to heavy studio export hardware sets evoking techno nostalgia on vintage boxes. His recent performances have vacillated between Eyes’ Aphex inspired laptopia, filled with meticulously hand-built breaks and widescreen melodies to tough electro and analogue module madness hewn from bespoke Euroracks and creaking analogue synthesisers.
Matt Robson is a music producer from Leeds working within the framework of no-knowledge amateur electronics, akin to an audio version of naïve art (minus the talent that might normally be associated with that artistic school).
His sound has often been described as Autechre after a serious road traffic accident performing unheard nursery rhymes at a primary school. His latest EP Choices Among Men has recently been released via Bandcamp to widespread derision and ridicule.
