Forming in 2015, early songs, such as ‘Concrete’, took influence from their surroundings and northern roots. The song was penned about a homeless couple who vocalist Paul Tong met on the streets of Liverpool, and went on to be played for 12 consecutive weeks by BBC Introducing Merseyside, leading to Radio 1 airtime, slots at Kendal Calling, The Great Escape, Liverpool Sound City and more. The follow up ‘Elizabeth’ also received Radio 1 support and was to the Best of BBC Introducing Playlist.
These songs and gigs formed the early basis of the band’s sound, drawing influences from guitar bands, cinema, dark pop and city life.
Until late 2017 the band was entirely independent, creating a buzz in their home town and twice selling out the O2 Academy. Knowing they needed to expand their team to grow further, the band enlisted producer Larry Hibbitt (Sundara Karma/ Nothing But Thieves), to hone their sound and further incorporate their dark pop influences.
Courtyards' sound is drenched in a wall of dirty, reverb-soaked indie rock centered around delivering consistent euphoric hooks and creating an immersive atmosphere.
Their diverse tracks range from brooding basslines and lustrous vocals to epic guitar lines and anthems fused with summer melancholy.
Vesent are a 4 piece indie rock band based in Leeds. They combine the melodies of pop with the raw attitude of rock to create a truly unique sound. Amongst many others, the band is influenced by the likes of Foo Fighters, James Bay and Mumford & Sons.
