FUNKY DORY 15 YEAR ANNIVERSARY PARTY
Saturday 8th August

FD Residents - GAVIN LAMPITT & MICHAEL PARK
THE STORY OF FUNKY DORY
The clubnight was formed way back in 2005 by local dj’s Gavin Lampitt & Michael Park.
We met through our dj residencies at Fibre and the mighty Federation, and decided to venture out and create our very own clubnight, hence FUNKY DORY was born.
Relentless nights of stomping the pavement with flyers and posters promoting the oldskool way and the opening night was upon us, not a packed house by any means but a good place to start, week on week crowds began to build and the word spread, there was a new night in town.
FD revolutionised the funky house club scene in Leeds and was without doubt a jewel in the crown of Leeds clubbing, supplying the very best in local talent along with big names on the scene.
Stand out names include :-
Whelan & Discala (now known as CAMELPHAT)
Herd & Fitz
Hed Kandi residents David Dunne & Andy Daniels,
And it was always a party when original Garlands residents “Dave & Huey” came to grace the decks.
At the time we were one of the only nights around who also invested in providing LIVE PA’s which always went down a treat with the Funky Dory faithful.
Bobbi – K-Klass
Marcella Woods (Out of Office)
Mighty Marvin (Dirty Coke Whore)
Because of this dedication in only the brands 2nd year Funky Dory won the accolade of been voted Galaxy 105’s BEST CLUBNIGHT 2006, beating off stiff competition from other far more recognised and established nights in the region, we were interviewed and played live on the Galaxy 105 radio station, the brand also got to perform on the Galaxy soundstage at the massive Love Leeds event at Lotherton Hall.
During its peak FD hit the road with club tours visiting almost every major city in the North, along with our unforgettable trip to the white isle of IBIZA where we teamed up with the legendary PUKKA UP hosting a prestigious boat party before heading on to the main event at EsParadis.
Funky Dory ran for almost 7 years in Leeds where the Space Nightclub on Duncan st was called home, the night very quickly became the clubs busiest and most talked about night. Attracting almost 700 clubbers on a weekly basis which was no mean feat especially as it was a Sunday night. Bank Holiday Sundays were the main events where we could showcase the big artists and in return attract 1200+ party people.
As with everything in life “All Good Things Must Come To An End”, recession hit, clubbing changed, the music, the people, and funky house nights soon became a thing of the past L
Throughout our journey we had some AMAZING times and met some AMAZING people……YOU the clubbers, thank you to each and every one of you who attended any of our events we hope you had as much fun as we did.
BUT……….. We feel like we have unfinished business and have toyed with the idea in the past of a reunion party but for one reason or another it never came to fruition until now……….. 15 years on and these no better time to dust off your dancing shoes for the FUNKY DORY 2005-2020 15 Year Anniversary.
We REALLY hope you can join us for one last dance!!!!
and as we always used to say –
“SEE YOU ON THE DANCEFLOOR”
Gavin & Michael
