Join us at Barrow Comedy Club – The Duke of Comedy on Thursday 20th June 2019 for a night of stand-up comedy from a line-up of hilarious and amazing comedians from the circuit.
The line-up is:
MC – Mike Wilkinson
Full to the brim with down to earth Northern charm, Mike takes a bemused glance at the world and then throws it a smile. The laughs come thick and fast with Wilkinson’s dry humour and razor sharp wit. A professional comic for over 10 years, Mike has supported Peter Kay, Johnny Vegas, Ross Noble, Jason Manford and others, and headlines comedy clubs across the country.
'Relaxed and confident stage presence' - John Murphy, The Last Laugh
'Excellent' - Marissa Burgess, City Life
Opener – Tom Taylor
In 2013 Tom reached the final of the prestigious So You Think You’re Funny? competition, the following year he was a finalist in the Hobgoblin Comedy Award and in 2015 he took home the award for Comedian of the Year at the inaugural Great Yorkshire Fringe. Most recently he picked up the Audience Favourite Award at the Musical Comedy Awards 2017 and reached the final of English Comedian of the Year 2018.
'Excellent … beautifully daft' - Sunday Times
'Tom Taylor returned for a cracking headline set. He’s a quirky, sometimes musical act with all the nervous energy of early Adam Hess with original gags and a confidence to work in the moment and mock his own stupidity. Dad jokes – and plenty of better ones besides – are rarely done this stylishly' - Chortle
'His brand of nervous, neurotic musical comedy – coupling deliberately simplistic tunes on an old Casio keyboard with cleverly constructed lyrics and smart wordplay – is an absolute delight' - The Skinny
Middle Act – Ash Preston
Ash Preston is an eccentric storyteller with a high energy style, that compliments any line-up he appears on. Beginning comedy in 2017, Ash has performed all over the country and also appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He also resembles several notorious murderers!
'Ash brings great energy to the stage' - The Stand
'I’ve gigged with Ash a few times, but EVERY time I have, he’s always had one of the best lines of the night' - Dane Baptiste
'Cleverly crafted jokes, a definite crowd pleaser' - Shoe Cake Comedy
Headliner – Tony Burgess
You may recognise Tony from his role in the cult BBC3 comedy Ideal where he played DJ Troy, Moz’s crazy, vinyl obsessed brother; you may have seen his self-penned BBC1 sitcom The Visit, or maybe you’ve caught him doing stand-up where he’s played the most established venues throughout the country. Tony was the winner of the prestigious City Life Comedian of the Year in 1993 (previous winners have been Peter Kay, Caroline Aherne, Jason Manford and John Bishop).
'…extracts the comic and absurd from difficult situations…' - The Guardian
'A demon set and staggering stage presence…' - The Big Issue
'…great, well crafted gags' - The Times
Tickets are £8 each and can be purchased directly from the Duke of Edinburgh or online from TicketSource.
