World class pianist Brian Kellock presents a romp through the music of jazz great Fats Waller

Brian Kellock plays Fats Waller on Saturday 19th January 2019

Set in the beautiful Great Hall at Hill of Tarvit, this is a rare treat for everyone who loves music, especially on a cold January night.

Brian Kellock is Scotland’s world-class jazz pianist, a musician respected on both sides of the Atlantic for his imagination, creativity and encyclopaedic knowledge of the jazz repertoire. He emerged as an exciting keyboard talent with blues singer Tam White’s Dexters and was a vital member of the John Rae Collective, the group that defined Scotland’s golden jazz generation of the late 1980s, before forming his own award-winning, brilliantly spontaneous trio.

In parallel, sympathetic work as an accompanist led to Kellock becoming the pianist of choice for major players including saxophonists Stanley Turrentine, Scott Hamilton and Charlie Rouse and singers Sheila Jordan, Carol Kidd and Liane Carroll.

In revisiting the Fats Waller songbook with Roy Percy, Kellock brings to the fore his mastery of the stride piano style and good-time, romping rags with a bassist whose energetic slapping and firmly rooted grooves show why he has become a favourite companion of international touring musicians including the Dutch swing violin virtuoso Tim Kliphuis.
