Geno Washington & The Ram Jam Band
Geno Washington and The Ram Jam Band are one of the greatest and most successful Soul bands, originally active from 1965 to 1969 and now going stronger than ever.
It’s official - they have just confirmed that they will be headlining the “Moray’s Got Soul” Music Event on Saturday 19th October, brought to you by YBD Music, whose North of Scotland debut event ‘Moray’s Dancing in the Moonlight’ sold out in under 2 hours.
This very special music event will raise money and awareness for the Lossiemouth Bridge.
Geno Washington is known throughout the UK as the King of Soul and Rhythm and Blues…a legend on the 1960’s live circuit. He still enjoys cult status on the Soul, Blues, R & B and Northern Soul scenes today, due to his unsurpassable reputation as a live performer.
In the 1960’s whilst Geno was serving in the US Air Force and stationed in Norfolk, he teamed up with some of London's hottest musicians. Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band very quickly became established as the most exciting live band in Britain, regularly topping the bill over world famous artistes, as nobody in their right mind wanted to go on stage after a Geno show! Geno and The Ram Jam Band have had the likes of Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix as their support bands.
US soul acts rarely visited the UK so Geno was our Soul Man. Together with the Ram Jam Band he went on to have two of the biggest selling UK albums of the Sixties. Amazingly both of these were live albums. 'Hand Clappin' Foot Stompin' Funky Butt Live' (re-recorded in 2011 as 'It's Geno Time!') was in the UK album charts for 38 weeks following its release in 1966. Incredibly, only 'The Sound of Music' and 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' sold more copies in the UK that year... a fact that is a clear testament to Geno's awesome ability as a live performer who connects with his audience.
His status as the undisputed 'King of Soul' was cemented forever by Kevin Rowland and Dexy's Midnight Runners in 1980 with their world-wide No.1 smash hit single 'Geno', which paid homage to the great man himself and is still played regularly today on national radio and at Geno's live gigs both before and after shows.
His level of touring and the high energy of his gigs was, and still is, the stuff of legend. It was really Geno who pioneered this Go, Go style of performing and the audiences simply could not get enough. Throughout the years Geno and his band have continued to tour extensively all over the world and have released several highly acclaimed albums and singles.
Its all about the Disco, Soul and Rock & Roll! One of the most exciting up & coming bands in the North of Scotland, hailing from Lossiemouth! With over 240,000 Plays in only 1 year and over 17,000 fans on Spotify, they are on their way to the top!
Since performing at Moray’s Toploader event in April they have packed out shows in and around Elgin, played support and headlined gigs in the central belt, and played at Belladrum in a performance that was heralded as one of the best sets of the whole weekend. Their latest single “Vanilla” was released on 28 June.
A very creative local band who have played various festivals on the big stages. They won a significant Battle Of The Bands competition in Edinburgh in 2017 and have seen many of their songs chart in the New Music Scottish Chart Top 40.
A new release 'Everything Has Changed' on 16 August hit with a great force. In one night their group of followers grew from several thousand to tens of thousands. This evocative song with its accompanying video is a celebration of their hometown of Elgin.
On May 18 2019 Edgar Road were showcasing at the Keith Friendly Festival. Immediately following this gig the band travelled to Liverpool to spread their vibes on the world famous Cavern Club stage for the second time, at the International POP Overthrow Music Festival. This is a world renowned mobile festival which for the past 18 years has been staged in major cities throughout the USA and Canada, as well as in Stockholm and London.
More recently, they once again performed at Belladrum on August 1st.
