Review of Linton Festival 2018

Overall rating: 4.5

My first visit for the last day principally to see Davy Knowles.
Thoroughly impressed with this well organised and friendly venue. Plenty of food options, great cider and real ale ( and not having to endlessly queue for it), enough toilets, nearby parking and bales of straw to sit on if you haven’t brought your own seating (plus cover from the sun)
The sound quality is also good and as the venue isn’t rammed there’s plenty of opportunity to get close to the stage.
Highly recommended

Attended my first even Linton Festival on Fri night and I have to say it was fantastic. Great venue, great music and great people.

Travelled up from Devon to see Kris Barras who unfortunately had to pull out but had a superb night with great music from Travelin Redwing (great cover of Southern Man guys!), Pat The Professor McManus Band (excellent all round as always) and the impressive Think Floyd.

Camping good - the weather always helps - and was sad to leave on Sat morning as i could easily have stayed all weekend.

See you next year!

Beautifully chilled blues based festival in the garden of a country pub near Ross on Wye.

Just about the perfect event. Well organised Good Music, good beer and good food all at a reasonable price. It doesn't need go get bigger otherwise the ethos would be lost. More of the same please!

We spent the day on Sunday at the Linton music festival. New to the area we were really excited to enjoy such a well spoken about local music festival. We are fans of Blues, Jazz and Soul and my seven year old son, who plays the saxophone and my ten year old violinist daughter, were particularly excited to see the musicians. The ticket site said that children got in free with a full priced adult ticket and so I (foolishly) made the assumption that the event would be child friendly.
I need to say right off, that four of the Sunday bands were brilliant - I particularly enjoyed Eugene 'Hideaway' Bridges and Geno Washington, my husband liked the Mentulls best and the kids loved the Slambovian Circus of Dreams.
However, the second band, who started early at around 130, the Mama Martin Band, put a pall on our day.
Having eaten our lunch we went to the front to dance and really listen to the music. And one of the first words out of Mama Martin's mouth in the first song was 'Mother*****er'. I clapped my hands over my sons's ears and retired to the back of the far most tent. Where we could still hear her swearing like a Navvy for the whole set. Of particular mention was the song Toxic *****, which appeared to be about finding a woman a putting a bullet in her head. She made several mentions of her Irish Catholic upbringing. I'm Irish Catholic too, so not really an excuse in my book.
Perhaps someone should have reminded her that it was not even 2pm and there were likely to be kids in the audience! This band is definitely post watershed stuff.
When I mentioned my feelings to my neig*bours (who were just arriving at the festival when Slambovian Circus of Dreams started and who had recommended the festival to us in the first place), one of the stewards overheard and told me that she had also complained to the organisers who had told her that 'everyone else had loved it and anyway, they didn't want it to be family festival any more'.
If that was the case then it should say on the website, Children not welcome, or Please note, explicit content!
Although we did enjoy most of the music, we did not feel that we were a welcome part of the day after that. We wouldn't recommend the event to friends (most of whom have children) and probably won't be back next year - or at least not with the kids.

I had the amazing luck to fall in with a bunch of lovely people and had the most fantastic time at this festival.........and I slowly realised it wasn't a case of luck, this is truly one of the friendliest festivals I've ever been to!! I was introduced to some stunning new bands as well as getting reacquainted with more familiar ones and the natural amphitheatre is just glorious. What rain?!
