The story of Count Riccardo's love for his friends wife and political intrigue at his court underlie one of Verdi's best known operas.

Guildford Opera’s production locates the action in post-1900 Europe, in a period of simmering unrest. The excellent cast is headed by Alex Haigh (Count Riccardo), Przemek Baranet (Renato), Natalie Johnson-Hyde (Amelia, Renato’s wife), Callie Gaston (Oscar, Riccardo’s page) and Louise Herrington (Ulrica, a fortune teller). The opera is sung in Engish and accompanied by a wind quintet. A free preshow talk will be given by the directors at 6.30pm.
