Donzetti's L'elesir d'amore on Friday 18th May 2018

Guildford Opera perform one of the most popular C19th comic operas.

The rich but capricious Adina encourages hot-blooded Sergeant Belcore’s attentions to try and provoke her timorous suitor Nemorino. Enter quack ‘Dr’ Dulcamara whose ‘magic’ elixir may just be the cure for his shyness ... The ever-popular ‘L’elisir’ plays like a farce, with broad characters and all the eccentricities of rustic village life. Set in the Basque country, Guildford Opera’s production is fully staged with chamber quintet and sung in English with surtitles. Featuring wonderful exuberant choruses and the celebrated ‘Una furtive lagrima’, this is a warm, sunny show, perfect for an early summer outing to celebrate the royal wedding. There will be a preshow talk at 6.30pm by the directors, Lewis Gaston and Peter Melville before the Friday performance and a retiring collection for the Guildford CAB. Come and have a ‘wedding’ tea at 5.30pm before the Saturday performance.
