Academix A Cappella on Saturday 27th July 2019
Academix, a Surrey a cappella band, will be presenting a review of popular song over the last 100 years. The songs will range from numbers by The Andrews Sisters to The Beatles and Coldplay, but given a new twist with beat-boxing, (vocal percussion), and high tech looping. And you can’t miss their bass singing “Barbie Girl”! Everything will be sung in the a cappella style popularised by Gareth Malone’s Naked Choir TV show and the BBC’s “Pitch Battle”. “Academix have a great set in every way, you really shine” said Deke Sharon, the music producer of the Pitch Perfect movies.
Formed in Woking in 2014 by a group of local friends, this is Academix’s fourth appearance at the popular Guildford Fringe Festival. Last year the Surrey Advertiser described them as “a delightful evening’s entertainment”. Their show reel is on Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJdEF4dD6IM.
The shows are at The Star Inn, in Guildford town centre, on Saturday 27th July at 7.30pm and 9pm. Tickets are available online at https://guildfordfringefestival.com/sessions/academix-a-cappella/.
