Grayshott Folk Club presents: THE SILKEN SAME on Friday 18th May 2018

Friday 18th May 2018 @ 7.30pm

THE SILKEN SAME

The Silken Same are Galway/Dublin duo Mossy Nolan (bouzouki/vocals) and Colm McGowan (guitar/vocals). They are very popular in their native Ireland, and have supported a formidable roll call of artists such as LAU and Luka Bloom. Now they are ready to make their UK debut with this tour. I've been trying to get Mossy over to Grayshott for a few years as I love his singing and music. He has been joined by Colm and together they will transport us to The Emerald Isle with their wonderful sound.

+ The Charcoal Burners www.charcoalburners.com

We welcome back Haslemere's The Charcoal Burners, who are a barnstorming modern folk fusion group playing an intoxicating blend of original songs with a fast and furious mixture of new and traditional tunes. They are led by charismatic singer/songwriter/guitarist David O'Brien has who been writing and performing since the early 1980s.

David formed The Charcoal Burners in 2016 with Steve Redshaw and Martin Ruinet, two highly talented folk musicians from Sussex and Art Gelling on bass and Cajon. The Charcoal Burners' set ranges from fast, foot tapping and infectiously catchy songs such as 'Life of Riley', 'Free 'n Easy', 'The Devil Rides' and 'Working on the Railroad' to moving ballads such as 'Don't Let it Rain' and 'Seagull'.

Steve Redshaw's banjo playing is flawless and he wrote the band's signature tune 'The Charcoal Burners'. Martin Ruinet plays whistle, harmonica, mandolin & mandola, whilst Art Gelling on Bass and Cajon, beats rhythm that will have your legs twitching and itching to dance. At times their voices soar in four part harmony and can make your spine tingle.
