Russian Philharmonic of Novosibirsk on Friday 17th May 2019
Russian Philharmonic (of Novosibirsk)
Wagner Meistersingers Overture
Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1
Mussorgsky Pictures at an Exhibition
Conductor: Thomas Sanderling
Soloist: Sergey Redkin (piano) interval
Regarded as one of the leading orchestras in Russia, the Russian Philharmonic will open their programme with another great Wagner Overture, his Meistersingers Overture. The brilliant young pianist Sergey Redkin will then perform Tchaikovsky’s towering Piano Concerto No. 1, beloved by audiences all over the world. In the second half the orchestra’s Music Director, Thomas Sanderling, will conduct Mussorgsky’s majestic Pictures at an Exhibition. This work, originally written for piano, was re-orchestrated by Ravel in the 1920s and ever since then has become a centrepiece of the orchestral repertoire. The final movement, the great Gate of Kiev, is a huge and grandiose finale, a fitting conclusion to our largest and most extensive series yet at G Live.
