Back in the UK late 1979 and did gigs and sessions until joining The Pretenders in 1982 as replacement for James Honeyman-Scott who sadly passed away.

Much touring with The Pretenders and 2 albums; “Learning To Crawl” ’84 and “Get Close” ’87. Played at legendary “Live Aid“ concert in ’85.

In downtime from The Pretenders recorded extensively with Talk Talk, Roger Daltrey, Paul Young and many others.

Left The Pretenders in 1987 and went back to doing sessions for a while, (Tears For Fears, Kevin McDermott, Paul Young, Paul McCartney, Daryl Hall)

After doing some sessions for Paul McCartney in 1988 for the 'Flowers In The Dirt' album, was invited to join his touring band. Stayed with McCartney's band until 1994 doing 3 tours, 2 studio albums, 2 live albums, and the 'Unplugged' album.

Throughout the rest of the 90s did much session work and some touring in Canada and Europe playing with French Canadian star Diane Tell and also an album and gigs with prog rock band The Polygenes.

Towards the end of the 1997 recorded the solo acoustic guitar album 'Unsung'. This was cajoled out of him by his great friend, author Douglas Adams at whose house parties he would frequently perform. In 1999 recorded 'Emotional Bends' with The Robbie McIntosh Band which featured Pino Palladino, Mark Feltham, Paul Beavis and Melvin Duffy.

This lead to tours in Germany and the UK. In 2001 the follow up, 'Widescreen' was released.

In 2003 another solo album Hush Hour was recorded and released.

More session work, and some gigs with Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler ensued until a call from Norah Jones led to a world tour lasting a full year from 2004 to 2005 and live DVD.

Played on Norah Jones 3rd album.

In 2006 joined John Mayer's touring band touring extensively up to Sept 2010 playing rhythm, lead and slide guitar.

Released “Turn Up For The Books' in 2013.

Released EP “Let’s Put It All Together” 2014 and “Seeking Beauty” (digital single) in 2014.

New album to be released autumn 2016.

Current band features Peter Hope Evans-Harmonica (Medicine Head, Pete Townshend) Jody Linscott - Percussion (Kokomo, Elton John, Pete Townshend) Paul Beavis - Drums (Andy Fairweather Low, Robert Fripp) Stephen Darrell Smith - Keyboards (Bad Company) and Steve Wilson - Bass.

Robbie McIntosh plays Gibson, Fender, Duesenberg, Silvertone, Martin, Fine Resophonic, Dobro and National guitars.

Jackson Ampworks, Fender, Selmer and Marshall amplifiers.

He is an endorsee of D'Addario guitar strings and G7th capos.
