CIVIC ROOM venue information

CIVIC ROOM is a non-profit gallery established in Glasgow, 2015. Guided by an Advisory including artists, curators and leading architects, the organisation seeks to share a critical engagement between artists and the built urban spaces surrounding High Street and communities both local and international, residential and transitory.

CIVIC ROOM has continued to grow in vision and reach with a critical programme featuring both established and emerging artists. Over the last two years, CIVIC ROOM has created partnerships with Doors Open Day, the Festival of Architecture 2016, Glasgow International, The Glasgow School of Art and Northlight Heritage in connection with the Molendinar Burn Project.

Three individual strands, Open, Programme and Off-site, offer new commissions in response to the shifting physical and socio-political landscape of High Street.

CIVIC ROOM finds and curates unusual opportunities for practitioners across fields of art, design and architecture to contribute to a global conversation in Glasgow - providing new contexts for professional practice, reaching new audiences, sharing knowledge across disciplines and bridging disparate communities.

Based in a former British Linen Bank on High Street in the east end of Glasgow, CIVIC ROOM is exploring the redevelopment of this historic site through the HSLB conservation group.
