Playtime with Paul Towndrow on Thursday 15th February 2018

Making his long-overdue Playtime debut, saxophonist Paul Towndrow is a crucial figure at the forefront of the Scottish jazz scene. His CV features a bewildering array of activity: long-standing member of the renowned Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, saxophonist with Hue and Cry, leader of his own trio and quartet, prolific composer and arranger. He is also a highly respected educator, both through his own annual Jazz Summer School and as saxophone instructor on the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Jazz Course. As a player he has a truly unique sound, and can move from beguiling lyricism to blistering chromaticism in the blink of an eye. For this concert he'll be bringing a programme featuring his own superb compositions alongside classic works by, among others, the great Cannonball Adderley, and will be joined by Graeme Stephen (guitar), Mario Caribe (bass) and Tom Bancroft (drums).
