Cute Owl Promotions proudly presents: tAngerinecAt, Earth Wire and W O L F N O T E // as part of the Edinburgh leg of tAngerinecAt's UK Tour. An amazing night of highly individual music.
tAngerinecAt was formed in 2008 in Ukraine as a collaboration between Ukrainian born Eugene Purpurovsky and English born Paul Chilton. Their music absorbed the musical, poetic and social forms of Ukrainian and Soviet counterculture; the classical music skills, composition, directing and stage experience of Eugene as a singer, actor, poet and musician in solo and various musical projects - from classical to metal, since 1990, and his experience living in rough social and economic conditions and resisting authoritarian structures.
Together they traveled to remote places in the Carpathian Mountains gleaning from the local music culture. Add to this witches brew influences from EDM, blues, metal, art-rock.., and their persistent use of unusual musical instruments – most notably the hurdy-gurdy, - and you will get raw powerful cinematic and deeply atmospheric electronica with punk attitude that touches the inner most part of the human personality and is reminiscent of a tapestry with many different details.
They have four independently released, successfully selling albums that have had airplay on BBC 2, BBC 3 and BBC 6. The band has toured internationally in Ukraine, UK and Russia from 2010 and since relocating to UK in 2016 have quickly gained momentum, intensively touring with headline shows in London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Bristol, Brighton, Lancaster, Hull and nearly everywhere in between resulting in them having a large number of fans all over the UK and organize their own nomadic festival of unusual music called Cute Owl. They just released a long-awaited by their fans new album Many Kettles which is only available at their live shows at the moment.
'Watch out for: tAngerinecAt... this is some of the most powerful music I have heard in a long time...' - LOUDER THAN WAR
'I've never seen someone play a hurdy-gurdy so punk...'
- DEVIL’S DYKE NETWORK
“tAngerinecAt brought not just synth to the table, but a whole range of physical, classical instruments into the mix – most noticeably their use of the hurdy-gurdy, to make their music the deep notes of severe doom and dread that gave it the feeling of a rave in a mausoleum...”- LEFTLION
'Eugene is a fantastic singer, a ranter and belter with occasional glassware-shattering screams. As abrasive noise went, I liked them a whole lot...' - ROCKNERD
Mixing a wide range of influences to produce a left field, lo-fi and emotionally impactful musical view of the world as they see it, Edinburgh-based four-piece Earth Wire create genre-defying music in attempt to capture the ephemeral through sound and lyric.
Rising from a multitude of different creative backgrounds and a history of working together in various incarnations, Earth Wire started as Delighted Peoples, a duo of loop-pedalists based on soulful vocals and electric guitar. Through a mutual appreciation and affinity of ideas they were joined by a rapper and producer and as Earth Wire they began crafting a unique sound.
Over a short period of time they have already made a mark on their local scene, securing support slots for internationally-esteemed acts such as Homeboy Sandman, Abdominal, The Mouse Outfit, Law Holt and Strangelove; played well-received sets at festivals such as
BBC at the Edinburgh Fringe, Kelburn Garden Party, Hidden Door, Carnival 56 and Audio Soup; and headlining locally-established nights by Limbo, Rally and Broad and Nu Fire. They have also been nominated for Best Hip Hop Act at The Scottish Alternative Music Awards.
“Edinburgh's finest, original but classic sounding. For fans of things like Massive Attack, Trip Hop etc. With a true wordsmith, real musicians and one of the best female vocalists on the planet.”
- Mark McGhee, Traffic Cone Records
“…a phenomenal band…soulful vocals, politically astute lyrics and trip-hop vibes to groove to.”
- David Blair, Colonel Mustard and the Dijon 5
W O L F N O T E //
Amidst hiatus from The Dark Jokes, drummer and producer Paul Dennington has embarked on a
new endeavour, developing his solo works in the form of Wolfnote. This soothing blend of modern alternative folk with a myriad of electronic styles displays quite the broad body of influence. Evocative of many contemporary and traditional styles, W O L F N OT E //, without a doubt maintains a truly unique sound both in the live arena and in the studio.
Live, Paul is joined by three other members: Ruairidh Morrison on bass, Henrietta Kesten on Cello and Fiona Menzies on cello and harp.
Utilising strings, brass, vintage synths and hardware electronics alongside haunting voices and folk guitar, W O L F N O T E // blends a truly unique pallet of dulcet textures providing great accompaniment to the various poppy hooks that raise their head throughout this stunning debut album. Prior to the release, a number of tracks have already been scouted for film and commercial use, including three tracks featuring in the critically acclaimed ‘A Weegie Abroad Free’ movie, one selected for a Brazilian mini-series and another used in a commercial for Bellfield Brewery.
