Hipkiss plus Support on Monday 19th March 2018
HIPKISS features Muddy Manninen (ex Wishbone Ash) on guitar and acclaimed British saxophonist and vocalist Patsy Gamble. The band play a mixture of their own original material and covers in a blues, rock, soulful style
Muddy first recorded in 1979 with Red House Blues Band, later joining Finnish group Havana Blacks, and then formed Gringos Locos, who recorded three albums, worked with the legendary producer Tom Dowd, and supported bands like Status Quo. In 2004 Muddy joined and globally toured with British rock band Wishbone Ash. He recorded four studio albums with them, and was the main song writer on the last three albums, including the critically acclaimed 'Blue Horizon', which put them back to the forefront of twin harmony rock guitar bands.
Patsy Gamble has performed and recorded all over the UK, Europe and in the Middle East with many different artists including Steve Winwood, Mick Jagger, Ruby Turner, Chris Farlow, and supported artists such as John Mayall, Peter Green, Gloria Gaynor, and Sister Sledge. Patsy was awarded runner up in the Best Instrumentalist category for The British Blues Awards 2012 and is in great demand playing in her own band – The Patsy Gamble Band as well as being featured with selected artists in Europe and the UK.
Mark Butler worked as a session player with various bands in New York in the 1980s including John Moore from The Jesus and Mary chain, playing numerous gigs at CBGB'S, The Knitting Factory supporting bands including Living Colour, Crowded House, They Might be Giants and Sham 69 and toured the USA in 1987 supporting Peter Murphy from Bauhaus.
He moved back to the UK in the 90s and played with many different jazz funk and blues outfits including Steve Waller (Manfred Mann, Dr John) and The Anthony James Baker Band at various venues including Pizza Express Jazz clubs in London and Maidstone with Neil Robinson (J.T.Q.) on drums John Cook (Rory Gallagher, Ozzy Osbourne, Mungo Jerry) .
Simon has played drums from the age of about nine when he found an odd pair of charred drum sticks on the edge of a bonfire behind the village Scout hut. He took them home and his mum gave him a biscuit tin and a cardboard box, he found a piece of chain in the garage and stuck it to the tin and hay presto he's been annoying people ever since with his incessant tapping.
He has played many styles over the years with many artists including Keith Thompson, Eric Bell, Tony Hymas and Mike Burston (Wurzel, Motorhead) with whom he recorded the single 'Bess'. Signed to a Spanish record company in the late 80's with the band 'Cut the Wire' he has also worked in many aspects of the music industry including stage management, sound engineering, running a recording studio and crewing for other bands on the road. But his first love is playing.
