Review of Jimmy Buckley and His Band

An excellent nights music and entertainment was provided by Jimmy and the band in Langholm last night. The show kicked off promptly at 19:30 and in the classic warm up of the band fashion before Jimmy made his way onto the stage to a resounding round of applause. It was my first time seeing the guys live despite being a fan of almost 15 years. I, like Jimmy, am from Ireland also however I always seemed to miss his dance hall shows and concerts, a point that we discussed both during and after the show! Needless to say the night was superb, Jimmy Buckley has a wonderfully, classic Irish singing voice and can also provide the sounds and hits of American country and various other artists. His impressions of Mick Flavin, Declan Nerney, Willie Nelson and, most famously, Daniel O'Donnell went down a storm and has the crowd in fits of laughter. Jimmy told stories a d jokes throughout the concert which struck home with me as they were the type of yarns I grew up listening to as a young boy. The interval lasted 15 minutes and gave everyone time to dash to the toilet and get another drink. The show resumed and once again the audiences hands were clapping away. Not only did Jimmy provide good old fashioned entertainment and knee slapping hits but he also delivered some very emotional and poignant songs that had the audience listening intently. The show ended just before 22:00 and this was only after Jimmy was called back for an encore...r the show I had the pleasure and honour of meeting the man for a quick chat and a photograph. What a gentleman he was, he genuinely happy to meet new people and took the time to really talk to his fans. It was a long time coming for me after listening and following his music for so long. A wonderful night enjoyed by all, everything was perfect from the excellent band to last note of Noreen Bawn. 10/10
