The Blue Note, named after the long-running and successful jazz record label of the same name, is a nightclub and live music venue in Derby. The Blue Note quickly developed a national reputation as a top-tier nightclub, allowing visitors to witness some of the music industry’s top performers. Opened in 1978 as an inconspicuous members-only club. It wasn’t long before The Blue Note developed a national reputation as a go-to music venue. The Blue Note has hosted some huge names including New Order, Culture Club, Dire Straits, Soft Cell, Robert Plant, Eric Clapton, Boy George, Spandau Ballet and The Pogues. The Blue Note also hosted the BBC, who filmed The Old Grey Whistle Test here, a programme popular in the 70’s and 80’s for showcasing some of the most exciting non-chart music. The Blue Note is one of the longest running live music venues in the UK and a great success story for the British music industry After a rocky patch in the late 00’s and early 10’s The Blue Note took on new ownership in 2019 giving it the fresh start it was ready for. Combining its rich history with new and unique ideas, The Blue Note is ready to enter a new era and we want you along for the ride. The Blue Note is now independently run, seeing through more development in the last year than the previous 20 combined. You’ll find The Blue Note in its element on a Friday and Saturday when the nightclub is in full swing. We play a wide variety of music, from pop and club classics to R&B and electronic flavours. Not only does Blue Note host some of the hottest local DJ’s every week, we are also open until 4am making our venue the last nightclub open in Derby, with final entry at 3.30am.
