Yorkshire Dales Dark Skies Festival Starcamp 2019. on Friday 1st - Saturday 2nd March 2019
Tan Hill has been selected to host the official Starcamp for the Yorkshire Dales Dark Skies Festival2019.
You will spend the weekend with a fabulous team of astronomers from Gostargazing , who will guide you around the Dark Skies of this light -pollution free location of Tan Hill Inn ,1732 feet up in the Yorkshire Dales .Immerse yourself in a sky full of stars with the Milky Way arching across from one horizon to the other all while exploring star clusters ,nebulae and galaxies using large ,powerful telescopes.
The event starts on the Friday evening with a presentation aimed at beginners offering a guided tour of the skies and stargazing offering a colourful introduction to astronomy and then heading outside for a laser guided tour of the skies and stargazing if weather permits .If the weather is poor there'll be an indoor 'virtual'tour of the night sky where you will learn how to navigate the constellations and find objects of interest.
Saturday will be action packed starting with a bottle rocket competition! Spend the morning constructing your rocket and then set it off from the launchpad at the Tan Hill Cosmodrome. Also on Saturday if the Sun is shining it will be possible to safely observe our closest star in amazing detail using a special solar telescope .Saturday evening will include another astronomy related presentation and then (hopefully!) some stargazing .
