A Night of Poetry & Song on Thursday 27th February 2020

Singer-Songwriter and Poet Vinny Peculiar [aka Alan Wilkes] grew up in Worcestershire and trained as a nurse before signing to Manchester cult label Ugly Man records [former home to Elbow]. He’s since put out twelve albums of literate autobiographical pop music over a twenty-year career and has regularly toured band, solo and duo shows. Variously described as – ‘an under sung national treasure’ [UNCUT] – ‘a warm hearted Morrissey’ [Q Magazine] and ‘the missing link between Jarvis Cocker and Roger McGough’ [Irish Times] past work associations include Bill Drummond [KLF], Luke Haines and Jah Wobble [PIL] and his various bands have included ex members of The Smiths, OASIS, Aztec Camera & The Fall. He’s also written and recorded as Parlour Flames, the band he formed in 2013 with ex OASIS rhythm guitarist Bonehead. 2019 has seen VP touring with The Wedding Present, Duke Special & Wreckless Eric.

Chris Hemingway is a poet and songwriter from Gloucestershire. He has had four collections published, most recently “Who Lied about the Mermaid’s Ghost”. His previous collection “Party in the Diaryhouse” was described by poet David Clarke as ‘poems for the rock stars we never were, delivered down the barrel of a finely tuned vinyl collection’. He was once described by Bristol’s Venue magazine as ‘suffering from hip Sunday school teacher with guitar syndrome’, but that was probably just down to the spectacles.

Neil Richards is an acclaimed poet from Worcester, his debut poetry collection Wings Made from the Muscle of a River was published by Frosted Fire in 2018 to considerable acclaim. He is a regular reader on the Midlands and South West poetry circuit, a new collection is due 2020.
