About

We NEED more representation from the different groups within our community.

We want to share our history and educate using art as our medium.

In celebration of LGBTQ history month, we are holding a 3h workshop to create and showcase of political and art-based zines with @grrrlzinefair

Lu | Grrrl Zine Fair ( they/she)

Creates cross-disciplinary artworks, social practice, events, and printer matter with a focus on accessibility, labour, DIY culture, intersectional feminism, and personal experience of queerness and working-class culture.

'Zines are an accessible way for all ages to feel creative and make their voices heard. They are a flexible medium which can be used as an outlet for self-reflection, to pull together a project, to distribute artworks or share information about an important cause. It's highly likely that after your workshop, participants will leave with a new creative confidence, feeling empowered and they’ll have gained a life long, adaptable skill' -Lu

The workshop we will cover:

- A history of zines, where they came from ,and where you can access them now.- The use of zines for a number of topics, feminism, self-care, mental health, activism.

-2 x folding techniques for mini zines

*Please note, in the interest of keeping this a safe space, we ask that only those who identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community or allies with them will sign up to attend the workshop.

Recommended age is 14- and 18 years old- send me an email if you are not in this group and are interested in assisting.

We will help you organise a little showcase of all the amazing zines created in our gallery so you can invite your family and friends to come and see them.

There will be nibbles and soft drinks. But please have lunch before the workshop.

You need to book in advance to be part of this event and there are only 20 spots.

*The people giving this workshop are DBS checked with public liability insurance.

*This event is possible thanks to: Chelmsford for you.
