Gentileza Cardiff

We are Gentileza - an alternative, radical community art-space located in the heart of Cardiff’s thriving city centre. We believe in the immensely creative potential of our city and wish to offer Gentileza as a platform for emerging artists in Cardiff, providing fertile ground for collaboration between artists to improve the overall creative output of the city.
With the recent loss of music venues in Cardiff, such as Gwdihw and Buffalo, it is becoming increasingly important to regenerate Cardiff’s creative scene. As such, Gentileza will exhibit art and jewellery from local artists, whilst our beautiful upstairs space will be used to host open mics, stand-up comedy nights, meetings, workshops and other such events, further encouraging collaboration within our fantastic creative community.
Gentileza is a safe-space for Cardiff’s thriving LGBTQ+ community, as well as historically misrepresented radical organisations and individuals; we want to create dialogues and discussions within our community to promote a more conscientious, sustainable and fair lifestyle for humans and animals. We host a progressive, donation-based book-shop, allowing access to education about radical literature, and celebrating a diverse array of work from historically underrepresented authors... not just another stale male bookshop! Our aim is to offer a social hub for the radical communities of Cardiff, changing the narrative surrounding revolutionary and subversive thought; Gentileza means ‘Kindness’ in Portuguese, and this is the spirit we want to convey throughout the space.
During the daytime, Gentileza is host to Polarity, a plant-based speciality coffeeshop offering a wide array of fantastic coffees and vegan food options. Polarity runs on a low-waste, environmentally-conscious model, encouraging a sustainable plant-based lifestyle. Vinyl record store Dusty Fingers also operates from the space, showcasing some of the coolest records Cardiff has to offer.
We believe that, by offering performance and exhibition space to a wide array of artists and artforms in the city centre, we will not only bring Cardiff’s creative individuals together, reinforcing the sense of community in Cardiff, but also encourage collaboration and thus increase the creative potential and output of the community as a whole.
