Zingstock on Saturday 13th July 2019

Prepare for a harmony overload on Saturday July 13th at ‘ZINGSTOCK’ – a special summer concert celebrating the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, with an evening of music inspired by the era.

The event takes its name from popular Canterbury harmony-pop choir THE LEMON ZINGERS, now in their 7th year, who are headlining the show, which will raise funds for Pilgrims Hospices’ Blackbird Project.

Musical Director Lemon Otter explains “For our annual summer concert we wanted a fun theme that everyone could get behind; I’ve always loved the music of this era, so it gave us plenty to work with, and with our special guests as well, it’s shaping up to be a very special show.”

The choir will be joined by Sussex-based The Cheer Up Mollys, an all-female five-piece known for their feel-good live shows and inventive arrangements of folk, acoustic and Americana music. Described as “…joyful to watch and listen to. Their stunning harmonies gave me goose bumps” by Brighton Folk, Roots & Acoustic club, the band have recently launched their debut EP, ‘Mollyfied’.

Joining them on the bill are occasional close-harmony collective Acoustic Rescue Club.

Lemon goes on to explain why she chose Pilgrims Hospice as this years’ chosen charity. “When I found out about the Blackbird Project, it seemed a perfect fit. The project enables patients to leave their loved ones a legacy of voice recordings, memories and songs via a special blackbird-shaped memory stick. And of course we’ll also be singing our version of The Beatles ‘Blackbird’, which was actually performed at Woodstock by Crosby, Stills & Nash.”

ZINGSTOCK will take place at St Andrew’s United Reform Church on Saturday 13th July, with doors opening at 7.15pm. Tickets are £7 on the door.

Audience members are strongly encouraged to dress up in their hippy-est gear!
