Abbie Ozard

The Louisiana, Bristol

5th December 2022

16+ (under 18s must be accompanied by adult 18+)

Refining her talents as a songwriter and vocalist at Manchester’s BIMM, Abbie Ozard was catapulted into the public consciousness after signing with Liverpool based Modern Sky Entertainment UK.

Since then, Abbie’s stock has continued to grow. Teaming up with Rich Turvey (Blossoms, Vistas) on co-production duties, her singles that followed, “Growing Pains”, “Heartbreak Radio” and “On A Low” all received coveted Huw Stephens spins on BBC Radio 1, as well as support from key tastemakers at BBC Introducing Manchester, Shell Zenner (Amazing Radio) and the ever loyal Chris Hawkins at BBC 6Music. The latter, “Heartbreak Radio” made quite a stir on Spotify, gaining key playlist support, landing “New Music Friday UK”, “The Indie List” and many more.

Following her appearance at Bluedot Festival on the BBC Introducing Stage, Abbie then turned her attention to her debut EP - “Growing Pains” - which was released in late September 2019. Following this, Abbie hit the road with the highflying Whenyoung, who personally invited her on their 10 date UK tour after falling in love with her brilliant singles.

2020 saw Abbie step-up once again in the song-writing department – with ‘Crocodile Tears’ adding an infectious pop sheen to her scrappy sound, before ‘Pink Sky’ saw her sign to Manchester based LAB Records, sticking with Modern Sky for management. Streaming numbers grew, whilst a tour with Lauran Hibberd, and a co-sign from Phoebe Green saw Abbie take her place amongst an exciting wave of indie risers.

‘TV Kween’ followed, finessing Abbie’s escapist world-building and aesthetic – and brought with it more support at Radio 1 from Jack Saunders, as well as press backing at The Line of Best Fit and Clash magazine, and a Cover spot on Spotify’s flagship Indie List.

‘True Romance’ once again brought new champions on board, with DORK Magazine especially enamoured by her beachy indie – covering extensively online and in print, including naming her as one of their Hype Artists for 2021 in their last issue of the year. NOTION Magazine opened up a new world, with their online Internet Crush feature her first fully styled music / fashion crossover. On the airwaves, BBC 6 Music continued to support, with a spin from legendary indie doyen Steve Lamacq.

The continued successes across fan engagement, media coverage and musical development caught the attention of London based independent label House Anxiety - home to Genesis Owusu, Bad Boy Chiller Crew and carpetgarden. Previous acclaimed signees include King Krule, Courtney Barnett and Vagabon.

Since the signing, Abbie has spent the summer of 2021 writing and recording in London with Will Bloomfield, recognised for his work with Alfie Templeman. During this period, she has developed a more mature sound - evolving beyond the confines of her bedroom-pop origins, without losing any of her infectious spark. The first taste of this new era is set to be revealed in late 2021, laying the groundwork for a defining 2022.
