About

Misscoteque creates an intentional space centred upon queer joy and gender inclusivity. For our next show, we return to the roots of our musical and conceptual origins with an all-vinyl special.

Misscoteque is inspired by archival and oral history research conducted by co-founder Georgia into the lesbian disco scene which thrived in Bristol back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Our aim since beginning this project has been to reimagine that scene in a 21st-century context, reconstructing the lost underground spaces at louder, prouder, aesthetic and sonic volume. For this show, we pay special tribute to our origins. Our lineup of queer, women, and non-binary DJs will deliver euphoric old skool sounds, ALL ON VINYL, that’ll transport you straight to an 80’s disco; expect a cheeky bit of funk, synthy 80s pop, feel-good old skool house, and lots of UKG. The records have been rooted out from the deepest dustiest recesses of Bristol’s record shops; they may well have originally been selected, played out and adored in the discos from the lesbian scene of the 70s/80s and 90s. The killa lineup of vinyl selectas includes:

A for Alpha
DJ Ammi
K-Suga (aka sadsugar)
The Jellyfish Project

Come dressed in your finest dykey/queer 80s fits to celebrate this legacy.

P.S. Check out our poster artwork, directly inspired by a flyer discovered by Georgia in the Bristol archives straight from the 80s.

INCLUSIVITY POLICY

We welcome anyone and everyone who identifies as a woman, non-binary, intersex and/or trans.* In particular, Misscoteque opens its arms towards the older members of this community. Lesbian pubs and clubs of the old scene were once the site of a beautiful intersection of ages and queer experience, where one could go to feel nurtured and empowered by a chosen family. We want to celebrate and revive this intergenerational community.

*For the sake of clarity, this translates to NO CIS MEN in the building, including staff and crew.
