Berlin 7th Birthday on Saturday 20th November 2021

Join us at one of Brighton's newest and exciting venues the Water Bear Club on Brighton seafront.

20th November is Berlin - Brighton's 7th Birthday - Back in Nov 2014 is where it all began deep underneath Brighton station at our beloved Green Door Store. Fast forward to 2021 and it's been one hell of a ride. Never in a million years had we thought we'd entertain some of the biggest stars and up and coming names in electronic music.

We've gone from absolute mega heights to nearly being out of business because of COVID-19 but we've dug in, we've battled on, tried every type of party Brighton has to offer from club nights, to pop ups, to beach parties, seated COVID outdoor events and a 5 year long radio show.

Lots to look back on, lots to remember and so many amazing peops along the way.

A fervent passion for music and for making the people that enter the front door the focal point. No egos, no VIP, no commercialism has been the mantra all along, mixed with an injection of fun (and lots of confetti).

Be who you want to be and step into the space. Hope you can celebrate with us at the Water Bear for Berlin’s 7th Birthday. #berlinbrighton
Line-up:
Chemz
Koipinoxia
Markus Saarländer
Lola & POoK
Nadia
Nina Carina
Chemz
Joining us on the line-up and warming up the night is Chema Gonzalez (aka Chemz). Born in Germany with Spanish parents, Chema grew up in between both countries. 5 years ago he decided to make Brighton his home and he wouldn't change it for anything.

Music in all its varieties has always been a constant driver, whether it was playing in bands, going to festivals, gigs or dabbling behind the decks. Hence recently, he felt the urge to fill the gap that lockdown was imposing on all of us and express his creativity through DJing.

Apart from regular weekly livestreams on social media, he has obtained a weekly radio slot at www.radioRUAR.com and has made a name for himself in Brighton's Underground music scene with appearances for the SIZE. crew at the Widgeon Theatre Boat, Hot Box BTN, Shillin Presents, as well as a few Berlin-Brighton Saturdays at Block and the Berlin-Brighton night at Zahara, sharing the stage with the likes of Nadia Belakenhal, Koipinoxia, Markus Saarlaänder and Luke Brancaccio.
Koipinoxia
(Berlin-Brighton, Decadance Radio)
Markus Saarländer
Markus Saarländer exemplifies and expands one of the main roles of the DJ: bringing beautiful music to those who love it. He does this not only through his DJ sets, but through his renowned Berlin-Brighton events in Brighton, and most recently with his new label Dino Audio and regular radio shows.
Having played around the UK, Europe and the beaches of Ibiza, he established a home in Brighton which led to residencies for Hed Kandi, as well as almost all well-known club venues in the city, boat parties, pop-up events and more. Not only that Markus has been hosting the Berlin Radio Show on Brighton's biggest underground music station 1BTN Radio as well as well NYC based Frisky Radio, which hosts big hitters such as Sasha, Dave Seaman, Steve Lawler and more!

Beyond Creating an impact as a DJ, his aim to 'bring the German underground to Brightonians everywhere' has led to years of stand-out events that capture the lighthearted, community-driven, love-filled spirit of the Underground.

While some DJ's and promoters might take themselves a little too seriously, Markus radiates fun and humour, and it's obvious that his mission for the music is not to put himself in the spotlight, but to focus on the power of the music itself.

Markus is the founder of Berlin-Brighton, a Berlin style underground club night that has been making waves for the last 7 years.
Lola
Cutting through an endless sea of black t-shirts and stubble, Lola shines with a brilliance and infectious energy that strobes unrelentingly.

An honest, charismatic and bullshit-free approach to all things including her beloved music, sets her apart and has won her a loyal and like-minded following that continues to flourish and grow.
With success that’s over a decade in the making, it was a single seized opportunity to play for legendary DJ Dulcie Danger that set this dazzling force of nature on a trajectory that continues skywards to this day. Roots firmly still in Brighton, her sound now honed with a distinctively techno tip, Lola consistently pulls in crowds from every corner of the City’s bubbling underground music scene and can be regularly caught in clubs and festivals throughout the UK and Europe.

Effortlessly and deftly crisscrossing between her roles of DJ, presenter and producer she is an antidote to all that is generic and mundane and with that brings boundless creativity and a sparkling vibrancy to all that she touches.

Earning her stripes playing alongside global heavyweights including: Honey Dijon, Booka Shade, Max Chapman, Sasha, Route 94, Kellerkind, Pan Pot, Transcode, Blancah, Jonas Saalbach, Juliet Fox, Rebekah, Dave Seaman and Teenage Mutants – Lola is an unstoppable and undeniable force who continues to advance and evolve.

Lights off, heads down, Lola has entered the building.
POoK
The stuff of Norse folklore and with a brilliant mind undulled by over two decades of raving, despite his greatest efforts, POoK is as confident deploying bangers from his studio as he is storming dance floors with his inimitable mix of relentless beats and vivid melody. Inhabiting a harmonic ecosystem from inception, he has spent a lifetime gathering inspiration from artists as diverse as: Hawkwind, Hendrix, King Kurt & Fred Wesley and the Horny Horns – and from genres ranging from punk, break beat, psychobilly and acid house. With solid foundations hammered into the cold, dark, granite of the Welsh Mountain free party scene, his musical journey has seen him stick to roads less travelled and choose to remain in the darker realms of the sub-terra. Initially concentrating on carving out his space as a DJ, organic growth from the 90s rave scene and through early progressive house - it was then that breaks became a real thing. Fully embroiled in the scene and never content to simply exist, it was during this time (circa 2000 onwards) that his much lauded brap.fm radio show “The Beatroute Sessions” received regular nominations for “Best Radio Show” at Breakspoll. With breaks his chosen rhythm for nearly a decade it was not until 2010 when he rediscovered techno and prog-house that his focus switched back to 4/4. It was with this move across to driving beats that also came the decision to hone his production skills – PS1 Music Maker made way for Logic which was then switched for Ableton and rather than selling his soul for quick fire success, spent time diligently putting in the hours to learn and craft the exceptional skills he holds today.
Now certain in his sound and ability to consistently deliver; initial releases including “Lola” (Dino Audio) have seen huge support from the likes of Dave Seaman, Davide Squillace, Aly & Fila, Paride Saraceni, Danny Tenaglia, Paco Osuna, Cid Inc, Solarstone, Soul Button and many more. Since then releases have come far and wide with EPs on Krafted, Nightshift as well as Meat Katie’s label Lowering The Tone and most recently, signed to Hollens label - Prospect Records. With regular bookings across the UK and as a central figure in Brighton’s inspired, underground, electronic music scene; POoK is a rising star with sights, much like his beloved techno, set firmly on the future and all that his hard graft and undeniable talent will bring.

Nadia
Joining us on the line-up is Nadia who grew up in sunny Algeria, where her interest in music started and as she practised her art, she became heavily involved in the local scene. Over the last 15 years, ever since she embarked on her musical journey, she crafted her DJ skills with her style of DJing being influenced by the legends; Hernan Cattaneo, Guy J, Nick Warren and Sasha & Digweed to name a few. Not only that, Nadia regularly takes to the airwaves on NYC based station Frisky Radio with her show Tassili plus regular appearances on Saturo Sounds Radio.

Nadia has been based in the UK for the last few years, playing alongside great names such as Kasper Koman, Budakid, Paul Hazendonk, Alfonso Muchacho, Luke Brancaccio, Moshic and Habischman at amazing events run by the likes of Modern Agenda, the Prog Lab & Progressive Astronaut …all of this without forgetting her active contribution to the Algerian local scene.

Nina Carina
Nina is a Brighton based DJ / vocalist / songwriter / producer. On air every Friday night 10pm until midnight with her radio show- Phat Fridays on Codesouth.fm.

Nina's career has been blossoming as of late with many guest appearances across various streams and radio shows. A much-loved figure within Brighton's music and LGBTQ scene.
