Artist Profiles:
Deekline is that rare figure in dance music, the seminal producer who balances the cutting edge and the mainstream with effortless flair. Boss man chief of the Hot Cakes/Jungle Cakes collective of producers, promoters and DJs, this bonafide bass music icon is currently experiencing a new lease of life as a legendary figure to a new generation of jungle, bass and garage artists.
Tracks such as Got to Believe, Deepa and jungle anthem Good to Have the Feelin, with the legendary Tippa Irie, have picked up play and support from DJs such as MistaJam and Annie Mac, on Radio 1 and 1Xtra.
In the studio, Deekline is a bonafide musical shapeshifter, his impressive diversity having seen him rework the likes of Armand Van Helden, Old Dirty Bastard and The Prodigy. His landmark, chart-topping Welcome to the Jungle mix series on Jungle Cakes has just reached its eighth volume.
Strangely enough for an artist named Ed Solo, this prolific producer used to be best known for his collaborations with other artists. Deekline, Krafty Kuts, Skool of Thought, drum 'n' bass legend Brockie - all have benefited from getting Ed alongside them in the studio. The east London lad who grew up listening to pirate radios and cut his teeth as a production assistant at the famous Sour studios really is a Jedi master of sonic science: drop the needle on an Ed Solo record and you'll soon know about it - no one makes club music that cuts through a soundsystem quite like him.
★★ JFB ★★
The current UK DMC Champ returns from smashing dance floors all over country to bring us another Battlejam!
Few artists have been further to the forefront of turntablism than Brighton’s JFB, a scratch DJ and party rocker extraordinaire who has won 3 UK DMC titles.
Yet unlike many turntablists, JFB also knows when to stop beatjuggling and start dropping bombs – ultimately, it’s all about making the people dance. Many of the tunes you’ll hear him spin will be his own special edits and remixes. This is an artist who’s fully immersed in bass culture, and just as happy spinning hip-hop or jungle as he is breaks and dub.
