About

BBG Basics

Ever fancied trying your hands at DJing? Then we’ve got you covered. BBG Basics is an informal, friendly, and supportive workshop for women and gender minorities covering the basics of DJing.
Suitable for beginners and for those with some experience of DJing. All levels welcome - we embrace imperfection, learning, and just enjoying the process!

We’ll cover the basics of DJing, breaking down some of the DJ lingo and explaining the basic mechanics of mixing one song into another. You’ll get an opportunity to try mixing a song either on CDJs, vinyl, or a controller, as well as getting the opportunity to meet some of Brighton’s friendliest queer DJs on the scene.

If you can, bring some of your favourite songs along with you on a USB stick, so you get to mix with your own music. As a collective we do not have any funding, so any solidarity tickets bought go towards helping us run more workshops in the future, carrying on our radio show, and putting on women + gender minority led nights in the future. We do not make any profit from these workshops, as the costs go towards covering venue hire. If money is a barrier to you attending, please drop us a line and we will arrange something - we want everyone to be able to have a go!

BBG is are a brighton-based collective of djs who want to platform each other as non-binary, trans, women, queer and gender non-conforming folk within the city’s electronic music scene. We are DJs with a range of abilities and experience, brought together with a shared love of fast, bassy, and breaksy electronic music – music that is often missing from line-ups that are aimed at the queer and women/gender minority community within the city. We aim to change this!

BBG aims to build safer clubbing cultures and accessible learning spaces where people feel encouraged to experiment, play, collaborate and celebrate one another. We are carving out spaces of learning and sharing that embrace and encourage imperfection.
