The Garden Show in Spring at Firle Place is now in its 11th year proving that it’s the perfect time and place to plot and plan for the garden year and be inspired to enhance the home and your lifestyle: specialist growers guiding one to the right plant for your garden and the right place in the garden for that plant. Plenty of garden related goods, artisan designs, homeware products, garden furniture, sundries, fashion accessories and the most delicious country foods. The show specifically encourages the smaller businesses and the majority of stands are from the local area. Firle Arts & Craft Market will again be held in the beautiful Old Georgian Riding School showcasing local art and design work and Weald Craft Tent will be full with a variety of artisan and craft wares.
The Gardening Doctors, Steve & Val Bradley, will be back helping to solve varied gardening problems to get your garden growing and whilst they are on their lunch break there will be daily talks and chats in the Gardening Doctors Tent at 1.30pm. On Friday we welcome the enthusiastic and informative Garfield Kennedy from The Woodland Trust who explains the importance of maintaining our native woodlands. We are joined on Saturday by Juliette Goggin who will be talking about foraging for plants which she uses in creating natural treatments to ‘revive & restore’. Then on Sunday, by popular request, Ben Cross from Crosslands Nursery returns, extolling the quality of British grown cut flowers and how the industry needs our support.
Beautiful Firle House will be open 12pm – 4pm during the show at a reduced rate and visitors have the opportunity to wander into Firle Place Herb Garden to see how my lady’s garden is growing. Lady Gage, with a long interest in the medicinal uses of herbs, began work on the design and structure of the garden five years ago and now produces Firle ‘tisanes’ teas and medicinal bath soaks.
There are plenty of activities on site to keep all the family occupied: The ‘Great Garden Show Tombola’ with a chance to win some amazing prizes donated by The Garden Show exhibitors in aid of ‘Something To Look Forward To’, the show’s chosen charity; ‘The Fun of the Fair’ will keep younger visitors busy and happy whilst anyone from 5 years to any age can try their hand at archery! Artisan workshops and demonstrations. ‘The Jazz Trio’ will be wandering the gardens delighting all with their evocative music whilst Huxley Birds of Prey thrill the crowds as they soar to the skies.
The weekend children’s entertainment will bring smiles as they have faces painted, learn to juggle with the jester, relax watching the puppet shows and join in Fantastical Pirate Treasure Hunt’ for younger visitors in Firle gardens.
All this and so much more. (If you can’t make this show – the next one is at Stansted Park, Hants 8 - 10 June and the show moves onwards to Loseley Park 27 – 29 July)
