Bell Lungs // ako on Monday 23rd September 2019
// Bell Lungs //
Combining psychedelia, ambient, dream pop, free improvisation, drone, noise and folk, Bell Lungs is a strikingly original musician breathing life into today’s music scene. Her heart-stopping vocals were deemed “elemental” by David Keenan (The Wire), and she has performed widely across Europe and the UK, including festivals such as Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2019, Supernormal 2019, Camp Elsewhere 2019, Listen to the Voice of Fire 2019, Manchester Folk Horror 2019, Fort Process 2018, Swansea International Festival 2018, and Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art 2018. Live, she creates immersive ambient performances that surprise and intrigue concert-goers, as they tumble from twinkly celestial drones to shrieking banshee calls.

// ako //
ako infuses diverse influences from more obscure elements of electronic and dance music, including synthwave, witchhouse and vaporwave, with experimental IDM sensibilities to create soundscapes that are both deeply atmospheric and at times viscerally raw. Avoiding clichés of dance music and creating something thought provoking. He uses VHS footage, modified games consoles, PureData and computer animation to create arresting audio-visual performances and experimental video. His music as ako has received national airplay on Amazing Radio and has been play listed by 'Fresh on the Net' amongst others as well as local air time on BBC Introducing. Key influences include Com Truise, Windows 96, Clams Casino, Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin as well as vintage and analogue hardware.
He is also involved in various other projects, including founding Kaneda Records, an independent record label committed to championing underground electronic music. As well as various bands, which have garnered national radio play on BBC 6 Music and BBC introducing as well as supporting touring artists such as Blanck Mass, Kite Base and others.
Simeon Soden studied Music Technology at Birmingham Conservatoire and has a Masters in Music (Newcastle University). 'this is an addictively uncomfortable track, squelching its dastardly tentacles under your skin and into your mind, and squatting there, just waiting for you to go back and press play again. It calls to mind [the most abrasive music of] Aphex Twin or Clams Casino, and would be a good accompaniment to Powell’s album on XL Recordings.
