Blackpool has always been synonymous with comedy and the spoken word; the dark humour of the poem 'Albert and the Lion', the flighty verse of 'Blackpool Belle' as well as a host of groundbreaking wordsmiths like Graham Nash, Jon Robb and Robert Smith.
The Open Up the Mic course is here to discover and develop writers and performers; whether you are a novice or want to further your experience of performance.
Two days of workshops every half term and one-to-one sessions with professional actors, comedians and backstage technicians, followed by a live stage performance.
We will focus on humour as social commentary, a mental health coping mechanism and a useful instrument to have in dealing with public situations.
There will be talks from experts in show business (both off and onstage) in order for you to gain a bit of insider knowledge.
You could be a writer, an actor or clown; this is for you to cut your chops in a professional setting.
Or it could be an introduction to a career you thought was out of your reach.
Above all, its a laugh, a chance to connect with new people and develop a local art scene together.
