Mid-Day Mantra 2018 with Soumik Datta on Monday 22nd October 2018
Sit back, relax, and let Indian melodies nurture and uplift your spirit.
More than four years since its last appearance, Mid-day Mantra returns with the prolific British-Indian composer and sarod virtuoso Soumik Datta, who brings the sounds of South Asia to the stunning Dome in University of Birmingham’s Bramall Music Hall.
Through his mastery of the sarod (a 19-stringed instrument prominent in Northern India and Pakistan), Soumik’s technique bridges Indian classical and contemporary music. Trained by the legendary Pandit Buddhadev Das Gupta, he has collaborated with international artists including Beyonce, Jay-Z, Bill Bailey, Nitin Sawhney, Anoushka Shankar, Talvin Singh and Joss Stone.

Accompanying Soumik at Mid-day Mantra is virtuoso percussionist Ayoze de Alejandro Lopez (Canary Islands). Yes, this event really is free!
