Lush Rocks Presents: Singing for Supper on Friday 24th November 2017
At Lush Birmingham, we're passionate about grassroots activism and we love live music! What better way to make a positive change than to put on a Charity gig?
The Night Shelter in Coventry is a small organization that provides emergency overnight shelter to destitute refugees and migrants. While most people who find themselves on the street are able to find support from hostels and homeless support services people who are ‘No Recourse to Public Funds’ cannot claim any benefits, access mainstream hostels or, in the case of refused asylum seekers, legally work. Many organizations, from Amnesty International to the British Red Cross, have condemned the UK’s policy of deliberate destitution for those who have been refused asylum. The Night Shelter offers a warm place to sleep, a hot meal, washing facilities and friendship to destitute migrants who would otherwise be sleeping on the streets. They aim to be a place that people can turn to in crisis, and have up to 21 people staying with us every night; people from Afghanistan to Zimbawe. Those staying get an evening meal, blankets, a camp bed, toiletries and breakfast. All of this is provided by donations.
We are asking guests to bring donations of the following items for Coventry Peace House: Sugar, breakfast cereal, rice, jam, toothbrushes, toothpaste, cooking oil, instant coffee, toilet roll, or washing powder.
We're also supporting local talent and an amazing local business. We hope you love them as much as we do! See you there!
