Review of Ulrich Schnauss & Mark Peters/Teeth Of The Sea/John Biddulph
This is the second time Ulrich Schnauss has brought his electronic soundscapes to the lovely, unusual surroundings of St Paul's Church. Unsurprisingly, this venue has a certain air of "village hall" about it - but the acoustic and views inside make it special for a gig.
But, where last year, the great, moody aural journeys were backed by visuals projected onto a screen behind the performers, this year, they were lost against the back wall of the church.
And, it is Teeth of the Sea who stole the show - great compelling music from a trio with a command of a range of instruments to get their sounds out. It seemed though, certainly with the guitarist, the "rarefied" surroundings left them feeling like they should hold themselves back.
Sadly though, while Peters and Schnauss are obviously great at what they do, coming together seems to compromise their performances. Rather than this being a gig, it apparently became a self-indulgent meditation session... 90 minutes of meandering electronics that never really came into focus.

Review of Thorsten Quaeschning / Quaeschning & Schnauss / Theo Travis
Thorsten Quaeschning and Ulrich Schnauss are current members of the legendary German electronic band Tangerine Dream. The music they are making is truly awesome. As well as doing albums under the Tangerine Dream banner they have recorded an album together called Synthwaves. They have each issued their own remarkable albums so please give them a listen. You won't be disappointed.

Review of Thorsten Quaeschning / Quaeschning & Schnauss / Theo Travis
Nice work from Thorsten and Ulrich at the start, then some great flute/soprano sax + effects playing from Theo and then a really good set from Thorsten who seemed to be thoroughly enjoying himself, and a lovely segue into the set from an acoustic Walking the Air Tonight drifting in from the churches piano in the corner. Can't wait for the TD return to the city in October.
