Dave Haslam: The Hašienda, Manchester & Courtney Love [Talk] on Wednesday 11th March 2020
The Haçienda, Manchester & Courtney Love - Dave Haslam discusses his life and career as a DJ and writer.
Dave Haslam shares exclusive content from his recent books, plus stories from his career as a DJ, including his experiences at the legendary Haçienda nightclub. Born in Moseley, inspired by the Au Pairs, the Prefects, and Dexys Midnight Runners, and seeing gigs at the likes of Barbarella’s and the Fighting Cocks, he fell in love with music as a teen. In 1980 he moved to Manchester and has made his home and career there. He played over 450 times at the Haçienda - and written five books, and his autobiography ‘Sonic Youth Slept On My Floor’ (acclaimed by BBC 6 Music presenter Gilles Peterson as “the best book of 2018”). His latest project, ‘Art Decades’, is a series of mini-books about subjects including vinyl collecting, the artist Keith Haring, and, most recently, the Hole singer Courtney Love (a fascinating investigation into the unhinged months she spent in Liverpool in 1982). His appearance at the Hare & Hounds includes music clips, a Q&A hosted by Birmingham Music Coalition founder and music journalist Lyle Bignon, and a signing session.
