Review of Ishmael Ensemble

Everything was great
In Venue 2 of Hare & Hounds , a great set by a seriously talented young band
It was a fantastic gig, my best of the year so far. Ishmael Ensemble seems to have been given a jazz genre. I would say they're Bristolian with jazz beats and with an influence from David Bowie's Berlin period. All the members of the band use live loops in their performances and Pete Cunningham, great sax player, almost looks like a DJ mixing the sound whilst he's creating his loops and adding keyboards.
Support was from the also wonderful Waldo's Gift, another fine Bristol band, quite similar in sound to Ishmael Ensemble in that they also use loops and improv so each gig is unique.
